My name is Jeff Bennett, and I am a retired Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and a former CAST National Asset.
Over the course of my 23-year career, I specialized in violent crime investigations, working thousands of cases across the country. A consistent factor in resolving these cases efficiently and effectively was the strategic analysis of cell phone data. What may appear at first glance to be chaotic information—calls, texts, emails, and location data—can reveal a clear and compelling narrative when properly interpreted.
Today, virtually every individual carries a tracking device in their pocket. Every digital communication leaves a footprint. Through the careful exploitation of this data, I was able to assist in solving hundreds of homicide investigations, in close collaboration with my dedicated colleagues in local law enforcement.
In 2019, I was selected as a National Asset for the FBI’s Cellular Analysis Survey Team (CAST), a specialized role that allowed me to teach and testify as an expert witness hundreds of times across the United States. Despite the national scope of this position, my commitment remained rooted in supporting my local law enforcement partners and resolute prosecutors in Los Angeles as they pursued justice for victims and their families.
In 2023, I was honored to be named the FBI’s Special Agent of the Year for the Criminal Division. This recognition followed a year in which I assisted in the apprehension of more than 50 homicide suspects and provided expert testimony in numerous high-profile cases.
Now retired from federal service, my mission continues: to bring my expertise to your agency or legal team to ensure that the guilty are held accountable, victims receive closure, and the innocent are protected.
